A power rack (or squat rack) is the piece of equipment most home-gym builds get stuck on, because unlike dumbbells or bands it's a genuine structural commitment: a fixed footprint, real weight overhead, and - for full cages - a safety system you're trusting with a bar over your head on failed reps.

Two broad tiers show up on Amazon AU: open squat stands (two independent uprights, no back or side rails, cheaper and more compact) and full power cages (four uprights forming a full cage, with safety bars or straps on every side and usually a pull-up bar). Stands suit squats, presses and rack pulls where you can bail forward or sideways; full cages suit anyone training close to their limit alone, since the safety bars catch a failed rep from any direction.

Who actually needs which type

If you mostly train with a partner or spotter, or you're not yet loading the bar heavy enough to need a bailout system, an adjustable squat stand saves floor space and money. Anyone training alone at real working weights - especially on bench press, where a stand offers less protection - is better served by a full cage with enclosed safety bars, even though it costs more and takes a bigger footprint.

Weight capacity, upright steel gauge (thicker walls flex less under load) and hole spacing (closer spacing means finer adjustment for bar height and safety-bar position) are the numbers worth comparing before price or brand.
