Featured
Highest rating of the three and a brand already proven elsewhere on this site. 10mm NBR foam is a genuine middle ground — thick enough to cushion joints, dense enough not to compress into nothing after a few months.

Budget pick
By far the most-reviewed mat on Amazon AU, in any category — nearly 96,000 ratings. Thicker than our featured pick, which suits floor work and stretching more than a stable base for standing balance poses.

Alternative
The only PVC-free (TPE) mat here — lighter to carry and more eco-friendly than NBR or standard PVC foam, at the cost of being slightly thinner underfoot and the least-reviewed of the three.

A yoga mat looks like the simplest purchase on this whole site — until you compare three that all claim to be "non-slip" and "extra thick" and realise those words mean different things depending on the material. Thickness trades off against stability (a thicker mat cushions joints but makes balance poses harder), and material affects both grip and how long the mat lasts before it starts flaking or compressing flat.

We built this comparison from Amazon Australia's actual listings: current AU pricing, review counts, and a read-through of recent verified reviews. See how we test for the full method.

NBR vs. PVC vs. TPE

Most affordable mats on Amazon AU, including our featured pick, use NBR (nitrile butadiene rubber) foam — a good balance of cushioning and durability at a reasonable price. TPE (thermoplastic elastomer), used in our alternative pick, is lighter and PVC-free, which matters if you specifically want to avoid PVC, but tends to be slightly thinner and less cushioned for the same price. Standard PVC foam mats, like our budget pick, are usually the thickest and cheapest, at the cost of being heavier to carry and less eco-friendly to dispose of.

Thickness is a trade-off, not a spec to maximise

A thicker mat isn't automatically "better" — past about 10-12mm, a mat starts to feel unstable under a standing balance pose because your foot sinks into the foam. If your practice is mostly floor-based stretching or Pilates, more thickness helps. If it includes standing balance work, a slightly thinner, denser mat is usually the better choice.
